Annually, HBHA’s drama department is focused all spring semester on putting on a play for the whole community to see. 

This spring semester, students have had a limited time to prepare for their performance, with school trips and AP tests to prepare for, so they have had to work extra hard to put on a production of Edward Streeter’s “Father of the Bride.” The plot features family members fighting over whom to invite to the wedding, and it follows a father struggling to let his daughter go and him figuring out how to pay for the wedding. The show took place on May 6 and 7 at 6 p.m. at The White Theater. 

Family, friends, classmates, and community members came to see the actors perform, and Jaxson Rosenberg, a freshman at HBHA, said, “It was very cool to see all the actors hard work pay off.”

Eliezer Rich, a junior at HBHA who plays the butler, Reginald, in “Father of the Bride,” said that the process of getting ready for the show included “reading the lines over and over and… then going off book every once in a while and just trying to see if you remember them.” 

Rich compared memorizing lines for the play to Torah reading and said, “It’s sort of like reading Torah, and you, you kind of have to… make a reason for why you’re saying the… the lines, and that’s similar to Torah.”

Shai Friedman, junior at HBHA, and the wedding mover, Joe, in the play said, “There’s a lot, specifically in my scene… because we had to move furniture in and out and in and out of the house, the entire time we have to get the timing right.” 

Friedman said, “Avital was really good managing everyone and the movers, and we, honestly, we, I’m very happy that we pulled it off with, I don’t think we were ready, like, a week before, but we all got together and got ready, and we were able to do, we were able to do it.”

By the end of their final performance, cast members and drama teacher Micah Margolies, were proud of their performance and put on yet another successful play for the HBHA drama department.
